Marriage In The Nation's Capital

two grooms for dc marriageBeginning on March 5, 2010 same sex couples will be able to marry in the District of Columbia.** Applications may be submitted as early as March 2, and all applications are subject to a three-day waiting period.

The District of Columbia requires the following:

* Minimum age of 18 (or 16 with the consent of a parent/guardian)

* Proof of age & additional personal information (SS #, marriage history, address, etc.)

* An application fee of $35 (cash or money orders only)

* A license fee of $10 (cash or money orders only)

* Signature of celebrant or judge licensed by the D.C. Court and registed with the Marriage bureau (the name must be submitted during application process for verification)

* Licenses are not issued by mail and must be picked up in person

* Civil weddings with a DC Court Official are available and require a 10 day waiting period
